Bags made by SPEEDY HOGARTH and TERRY CRAWFORD –
A collaboration of the best bag makers of 18th and 19th Century Shooting Bags, Haversacks and Day Bags.
Speedy Hogarth has been creating hand-made shooting bags (Possible Bags) for over 50 years. He is known as one of the best in his field from coast-to-coast. Speedy traveled extensively to 18th Century Market Fairs and Western Rendezvous. Speedy has conducted seminars at Dixon’s Gunmakers’ Fair in Kempton, PA from the first event ever held to the last one in 2019. His work is not only period-correct, but is also highly functional and collectible.
Terry Crawford apprenticed with Speedy for 9 years, and has been making shooting bags for 26 years. Having learned from the best, Terry won top honors at Dixon’s Gun Makers’ Fair in 2002 and 2003 in the Contemporary Bag Division. Several years ago, Speedy and Terry were chosen to make Colonial Bags for the Mini Series “Barkskins” – in collaboration with National Geographic and Fox Studios. The “Barkskins” series one aired on the History Channel in 2020.
Each Bag is a custom-designed, cut from the finest Elk, Deer and soft tanned Steer. Hand-stiched and finished by hand. All hardware is solid brass and iron. Period-correct brass buttons are used on the front flap, and bone buttons are used on the smaller back pockets. These are historically accurate bags that are carried by living history enthusiasts, from the French and Indian War period through the Fur Trade Era. These Bags ar popular among muzzle loading aficionados, as well as collectors. These are one-of-a-kind bags (no two are alike). These elegant shooting bags, are the last Bags Speedy and Terry will make. As age catches up with all of us, this collection of bags will be the last made by both Speedy and Terry. It’s been fun!
