Model 1851 Navy "Yank" Pepperbox .36 Caliber blackpowder revolver. Pietta's Pepperbox features a single-action brass backstrap and trigger guard, steel frame with case-hardened finish w/ walnut grips. Shoots directly out of the six-shot, 3" cylinder (no barrel) The first pepperbox revolvers originated in the 1500s and used matchlock mechanisms. With the advent of pin-fire cartridges, the pepperbox regained some popularity in the late 1800s as a small concealable weapon.

Almost as soon as the .44 caliber 1860 Army revolver arrived on the scene, people were cutting the 8-inch barrel down for better concealment.
